Hello HomeLab!
Welcome to my first post. I’m going to write a bit about how my homelab has exploded… (Figuratively speaking)
It started with my passion for connecting things. I’ve always enjoyed putting things together in unique ways. I used to snatch up people’s old PCs and install debian on them, connect them up with a network cable and see what I could do with that. LAMP server obvi. I found many other ways to connect them as well.
Now with a mish-mash of collected hardware including a pretty rugged intel DP55WG based proxmox server, a raspberry Pi running home assistant, a Synology 2bay NAS with upgraded ram (more ram for more fun!), I have a smart home, media downloading and streaming automated and accessible to me or anyone of my chosing globally, locally running AI assistant with persistent memory and much, much more.
If I’m not working or gaming I’m probably tinkering with something like that. With the way the world is going, (to shite you say?!?!) it feels right to bring home my reliance on tech. I’m not exactly ‘de-googling’, I’m just weary of hearing over and over again how so many of the giant tech companies are not making good choices. It’s a sad state of affairs that somehow leads to this feeling of everything being well and good when I stream a song from my own personal collection or watch the latest episode of some show with friends, remotely in sync.
The world of FOSS (Free and Open Source) software has exploded over the past few years. It’s a very exciting thing to be a part of in so many ways.
That is all for now. Stay tuned for more hijinks. Soon also to be more organized and enjoyable to consume!!
